Spring in the Shire Winners Announced

The winners of the 2021 Spring in the Shire photography competition were announced on Thursday 16 December at the fifth annual Golden Plains Twilight Market.

The Spring in the Shire photography competition is an opportunity for photographers from across the Shire to showcase their talents by capturing the beautiful surrounds and vibrant communities of Golden Plains. This year’s competition theme was ‘What we share’, and photographers of any skill level were encouraged to capture this theme through their lens. The competition ran from Monday 13 September to Sunday 31 October, with entries judged on impact, subject matter and storytelling.

This year’s winners and highly commended recipients were:

Major Prize (18 years and older)

Highly Commended:

  • Barry Feldman, Geelong - ‘Solitary Sentinel’
  • Lisa Carpenter, Scarsdale – ‘To get the rainbow you need a little rain’

Young Adult Prize (13 to 17 years)

Junior Prize (Up to 12 years)

Highly Commended: Ruby Bennion, Bannockburn – ‘Bannockburn Heart’

The Major and Young Adult prize-winners received $300 and the Junior Prize winner was awarded $200. Council partnered with Stockdale & Leggo Bannockburn and Healthsave Pharmacy Bannockburn to offer these great prizes.

From the more than 70 entries in this year’s competition, 30 images have been shortlisted and are now on display in a public exhibition at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre, 27 High Street, Bannockburn, until Monday 31 January, 2022.

The exhibition is open to the public from 10am to 1pm on Mondays, 10am to 5pm on Tuesdays, 10am to 6pm on Wednesdays, 10am to 5pm on Thursdays and Fridays and 9am to 12pm on Saturdays. The exhibition will not be accessible on Saturday 25 December or 1 January, and will be closed for all public holidays during the exhibition period, including Wednesday 26 January.

Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble congratulated the winners and entrants of the Spring in the Shire photography competition.

“The spectacular entries in this year’s Spring in the Shire photography competition are a great showcase of the creative talent of residents of all ages and from locations across our Shire. 

“Congratulations to our three prize winners, Lyn, Holly and Lucy, whose photographs beautifully capture the competition theme of ‘What we share’.

“With so many wonderful, shortlisted entries on display, we hope that many residents take the opportunity to visit the exhibition during January.”
