Spring In The Shire Returns

Media Release

Golden Plains Shire Council’s Spring in the Shire photography competition returns in 2021.

Presented every two years, the Spring in the Shire photography competition is returning in 2021, with entries open from Monday 13 September to Sunday 31 October. This year’s competition theme is ‘What we share’, and photographers of any skill level are encouraged to capture this theme through their lens. Images can be of anything, place or person (with appropriate permissions) that represents the Shire’s unique surrounds.

In 2021, there are 3 categories, with 30 photographs to be selected for an exhibition and go in the running to win a major cash prize. This year’s categories are:

  • Major Prize (18 years and older)
  • Young Adult Prize (13 to 17 years)
  • Junior Prize (Up to 12 years)

The winners of the Major and Young Adult Prizes will each receive $300, with the Junior Prize winner to take home $200. Council is proud to partner with Stockdale & Leggo Bannockburn and Healthsave Pharmacy Bannockburn to offer these great prizes. Three judges including Mayor Cr Helena Kirby will select the winner of each category, with the announcement of winners to take place in November. Public attendance and livestreaming options will be announced prior to the event depending on what COVID-19 restrictions may be in place. Should COVID-19 restrictions allow, the exhibition of the short-listed works will be spread across several months from November onwards and be held in several venues across the Shire.

To enter, photographers can fill out a simple webform and upload their photo at goldenplains.vic.gov.au/springintheshire. Images must be no greater than 10MB, be submitted with a title and short caption and have been taken in Golden Plains Shire within the last 12 months. Entries close at 11.59pm, Sunday 31 October, 2021 and only one image per artist is allowed.

Mayor Cr Helena Kirby encouraged local community members to enter Council’s Spring in the Shire photography competition.

“Spring in the Shire has proven increasingly popular with residents, with 60 entrants in the previous competition in 2019, and Council is excited to bring it back this year. While 2021 has been quite a challenging year, the competition’s theme of ‘What we share’ aims to showcase the positives that members of the Golden Plains community all share. We’re excited to see the beautiful surrounds and vibrant communities of Golden Plains showcased by photographers.

“Council is pleased to partner with Stockdale & Leggo Bannockburn and Healthsave Pharmacy Bannockburn to offer cash prizes across all categories, and we encourage all budding photographers in the Shire to enter.”
