Spring in the Shire Exhibition to Launch

Media Release

The winners of Golden Plains Shire Council’s Spring in the Shire photography competition will be announced at an upcoming award ceremony and exhibition launch at the Golden Plains Twilight Market.

The Spring in the Shire photography competition is an opportunity for photographers from across the Shire to showcase their talents by capturing the beautiful surrounds and vibrant communities of Golden Plains. This year’s competition theme was ‘What we share’, and photographers of any skill level were encouraged to capture this theme through their lens.

From more than 70 entries, 30 images have been shortlisted and will be included in a public exhibition from Friday 17 December to Monday 31 January at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre, 27 High Street, Bannockburn. Following the exhibition launch at the Twilight Market on Thursday 16 November, the exhibition will be open to the public from 10am to 1pm on Mondays, 10am to 5pm on Tuesdays, 10am to 6pm on Wednesdays, 10am to 5pm on Thursdays and Fridays and 9am to 12pm on Saturdays. The exhibition will not be accessible on Saturday 25 December or 1 January, and will be closed for all public holidays during the exhibition period, including Wednesday 26 January.

The awards ceremony and exhibition launch will take place on Thursday 16 December from 5.45 to 6.15pm at the Golden Plains Twilight Market, corner of Milton and High Streets, Bannockburn. Prizes will be awarded to a winner from each of this year’s categories:  Major Prize (18 years and older), Young Adult Prize (13 to 17 years) and Junior Prize (Up to 12 years).

The winners of the Major and Young Adult Prizes will each receive $300, with the Junior Prize winner to take home $200. Council is proud to partner with Stockdale & Leggo Bannockburn and Healthsave Pharmacy Bannockburn to offer these great prizes.

Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble thanked local community members for participating in the Spring in the Shire photography competition.

“We received such a great response to this year’s Spring in the Shire photography competition, with more than 70 entries from residents of all ages across the Shire. We hope that many residents will take the opportunity over the summer to visit the exhibitions and view the 30 shortlisted images.

“The competition’s theme of ‘What we share’ was an opportunity to showcase the many positive aspects of life that we all share in Golden Plains - a creative theme that was fitting in this past COVID year and inspired some impressive photographic works.

“As we all come back together to celebrate the festive season after what has been a challenging year, the Twilight Market is the perfect opportunity to showcase the talents of our community and recognise the Spring in the Shire award winners.

“While enjoying live music and great food and drinks, at the Twilight Market, community members will be able to take a look at the wonderful, shortlisted entries and celebrate the three winners.”

Congratulations to the 30 shorlisted entries, who were selected from more than 70 entires. The shortlisted entires will all be included in the Spring in the Shire public exhibition, with one winner from each category to be announced on Thursday 16 December at the Golden Plains Twilight Market.
