Golden Plains Shire Council is preparing a new Transport Asset Management Plan (TAMP) which will guide how local transport assets are managed, maintained and renewed across the Shire now and into the future.

Council manages a wide range of transport assets across the municipality, including sealed and unsealed roads, footpaths, shared paths, bridges, culverts, roadside drainage infrastructure, parking areas and street lighting.

As a large rural municipality, a safe, reliable and connected transport network is critical. It supports how people travel to work, school and community activities, enables farming and freight operations, and provides access to townships and services across the region.

Council is seeking feedback from residents, landowners, businesses, road users and visitors to help identify community priorities and expectations for the transport network.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Owen Sharkey said community input will play an important role in shaping future planning, investment and decision-making, ensuring Council continues to deliver transport infrastructure that meets local needs.

"Our transport network connects people to the places that matter most – whether that's getting to work, school,
local businesses or community activities," Cr Sharkey said.

"We're inviting residents and road users to share their experiences and tell us what's important to them, so we
can better understand community priorities and plan for the future,” he said.

"Your feedback will help Council make informed decisions about how we maintain, renew and invest in our
transport infrastructure."

Feedback on the development of the TAMP is invited from Monday 6 July until 5pm, Monday 3 August 2026 and can be completed at goldenplains.vic.gov.au/consultations. The survey will also be available at Council’s Customer Hubs, 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn, and 19 Heales Street, Smythesdale.

Following the consultation period, community feedback will be considered as part of the development of the TAMP. Council will keep the community informed on its progress. Previous responses received in the preparation of the Asset Plan 2025-2035 will also guide the TAMP.

Please note: The TAMP survey relates only to transport assets managed by Golden Plains Shire Council. It does not include roads or transport infrastructure managed by other authorities such as the Victorian Government or the Department of Transport and Planning, including major highways and arterial roads.
