Golden Plains Shire Council is inviting the community to have their say on a proposed land exchange at Elizabeth Street, Smythesdale.
The proposed exchange involves two parcels of land. Council has acquired five small, historic Land titles on Elizabeth Street, Smythesdale, which it plans to declare a road reserve. In exchange, Council will acquire a parcel of land of equal size on Elizabeth Street from the Department of Energy, Environment & Climate Action (DEECA).
This newly acquired land will be combined with an existing parcel of land owned by Council. This consolidation will create a properly aligned road reserve, allowing for improved access to Elizabeth Street for residents and properties in the area.
Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Owen Sharkey said the proposed land exchange is a practical solution that will benefit local residents and the wider community and encourages community members to share their views on this proposal.
This is a great opportunity to fix an issue that has impacted properties in Elizabeth Street. By correcting the road alignment, we’re not only improving access for residents, but also paving the way for future potential development, Cr Shakey said.
Community feedback is a vital part of decision-making. We want to hear from Smythesdale residents. Your comments will help us finalise a solution that works for everyone.
Feedback on the proposed land exchange is invited from Thursday 25 September to 9am, Thursday 9 October 2025, and can be completed online at goldenplains.vic.gov.au/consultations. Hard copies will also be available at Council’s Customer Hubs, 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn, and 19 Heales Street, Smythesdale.
Feedback on the proposal will be considered before it is presented at a future Council meeting.
