Plan Adopted For The Next Four Years

Media Release

At its June Meeting on Tuesday 29 June, Council adopted the Council Plan 2021-2025.

The Council Plan 2021-2025 (the Plan) details the priority initiatives and actions for Council services, infrastructure and advocacy to be provided to the Golden Plains Shire community over the next four years.

The Plan directly addresses and aligns with the Themes of the Golden Plains Community Vision 2040: Community, Liveability, Sustainability and Prosperity; with the additional theme of Leadership added to represent the Council-specific regulatory, governance, leadership and advocacy activities required to achieve outcomes for the community. With the overarching direction of the Vision, the Plan details Council’s commitment over the next four years to support the achievement of the community’s 20-year aspirational plan for Golden Plains.

The Council Plan has been developed in accordance with the Strategic Planning Principles of the Local Government Act 2020, and details 21 Strategic Objectives, with 83 key actions for delivery during the Council term.

Council’s Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan, required under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008, has been incorporated into the Plan and reflects the important role Council has in supporting the health and wellbeing of all people living in the Golden Plains.

Mayor Cr Helena Kirby said Council was proud to adopt the Council Plan 2021-2025 at Tuesday’s Council Meeting.

“Following every Council election, Council develops a new four-year plan to guide the organisation and the services of local government in the right direction for our community. After more than six months’ work and engagement with the community, Council was excited to formally adopt our next Council Plan.

“The Plan’s principal themes of Community, Liveability, Sustainability and Prosperity are the very same themes of the Vision, with the addition of the theme of Leadership. The marriage of these two key strategic documents ensures that our Council is moving forward in the direction that our community wants the Shire to head.

“It was an extensive process, and Council thanks each and every community member who participated in the Plan’s development over the last several months.”

The Council Plan 2021-2025 was developed following extensive deliberative community engagement. In January and February, Council ran a survey and held conversation posts online and in 12 townships across the Shire. A total of 219 written responses were received from residents, building upon the contributions of 534 community members on the Golden Plains Community Vision 2040, which was adopted last year.

The Draft Council Plan was developed from this feedback and was placed on public exhibition from 28 April to 26 May, 2021. During this period, Council received 10 submissions from the public, with three individuals taking the opportunity to present their feedback at a virtual Council Meeting on 8 June. Submissions focused on a number of areas including environmental management, climate change and health and wellbeing priorities. All feedback was considered by Council with some changes incorporated into the final version of the Council Plan 2021-2025.

The Council Plan 2021-2025 is now available online at goldenplains.vic.gov.au/councilplan and can also be viewed at Council’s Customer Service Centres, 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn and The Well, 19 Heales Street, Smythesdale.
