Australia has three major Mobile Network Operators (MNOs): Telstra, Optus, and TPG (also known as Vodafone).
Telstra generally provides the widest coverage in regional areas, but Optus and TPG are steadily expanding their networks.

On top of these, there are many Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) that use parts of these networks to offer services under different brand names.

Update
There is a federal government plan to create a Universal Outdoor Mobile Obligation (UOMO) which is scheduled to come into effect by 1 December 2027 which may further improve services to rural and remote areas.
