An exciting milestone has been reached for key user clubs at the Woady Yaloak Recreation Reserve with Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Owen Sharkey joining Member for Ripon, Martha Haylett MP (representing the Minister for Community Sport, The Hon. Ros Spence MP) on Wednesday 20 May to officially open the newly upgraded Woady Yaloak Netball & Tennis Courts.

This extensive $900,000 upgrade project was constructed over 9 months and includes:

  • The upgrade of two multi-use netball and tennis courts
  • New perimeter fencing
  • Installation of undercover shelters to provide protection for players, coaches, officials, timekeepers and
    volunteers
  • Construction of new storage facilities

The Woady Yaloak Netball & Tennis Courts upgrade project is funded by $700,000 from Round 1 of the Victorian Government’s Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund and $200,000 from Golden Plains Shire Council.

Quotes attributable to Member for Ripon, Martha Haylett MP:

This upgrade feels a bit bittersweet, given the Ballarat League's decision not to include the Woady Warriors in
their fixture. But these new netball and tennis courts will still get a lot of use for training and will be an asset for
Smythesdale for years to come.

Our country kids deserve to play the sport they love on modern, fit-for-purpose courts and that's exactly what
we've done. I can't wait to see them put to good use.

Quotes attributable to Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Owen Sharkey:

Our local clubs are the heart of community life, and they deserve facilities that match their commitment. This
upgrade gives the Woady Yaloak clubs the courts they need to continue growing and supporting local sport at
every level, Cr Sharkey said.

We’re grateful for the Victorian Government’s support and proud to deliver facilities that will benefit players,
coaches, officials and volunteers for years to come.
