Golden Plains Shire Council is calling on passionate young people aged 12 to 25 across the Shire to step into leadership and join the Golden Plains Youth Council (the Youth Council).

The Youth Council is the official youth advisory group to Council, providing a direct channel for young people to share their perspectives and have their voices heard.

The Youth Council provides young people in the community a platform for leadership and training to help them inform community planning and advocate on youth and community issues. It’s also an opportunity for young people to provide advice from a youth perspective on Council planning.

Members of the Youth Council work together to advocate on behalf of all Golden Plains Shire young people on issues important to them, so they can have an impact on making decisions that affect them.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Owen Sharkey encouraged young people across the Shire interested in making a positive difference to join the Youth Council.

The Youth Council is for young people who care about their community, want leadership or government experience, are curious, motivated, and want to make a difference and wish to grow into a future leader, Cr Sharkey said.

There is no prior experience needed to join – we’re looking for passionate individuals who are eager to make a positive difference to Golden Plains. This is an opportunity for young people to have their voices heard, be given the chance to help others and gain valuable leadership experience.

Expressions of Interest (EOI) to join the Youth Council are invited now and can be completed by contacting Council’s Youth Development Team at [email protected] or calling 5220 7111.

The Youth Council meets on the second Tuesday of every month at the Golden Plains Youth Hub in Bannockburn or online.
