Council is seeking feedback from residents and domestic wastewater practitioners on the Golden Plains Domestic Wastewater Management Plan (DWMP).

Originally adopted in 2015, Council is currently undertaking a review of the DWMP to reflect changes since its development, including legislative and policy changes as well as growth within the Shire. The review will provide an opportunity to update the current approach to domestic wastewater management planning and prepare for likely future developments.

Domestic wastewater management refers to the management of wastewater generated by households, commercial or public buildings which are not connected to the reticulated sewerage.

In Golden Plains, only parts of Bannockburn, Smythesdale and Enfield are serviced by reticulated sewerage with all other areas of the Shire serviced by on-site wastewater management (septic tank) systems, designed to treat and contain waste within the boundaries of a property.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble invited residents and domestic wastewater practitioners such as plumbers, land capability assessors, planners and developers to review the Domestic Wastewater Management Plan and provide comment.

“The Domestic Wastewater Management Plan guides the management of wastewater within the Shire including the management of on-site wastewater management systems, which currently service all households within the Shire outside of Bannockburn, Smythesdale and Enfield.

“The review of the Domestic Wastewater Management Plan will ensure it best meets the needs of the community and I strongly encourage all residents and relevant practitioners to have their say.”

The DWMP will be open for public exhibition until 5pm, Monday 21 November.

The Plan is available on Council’s website and hard copies are available at Council’s Customer Hubs at, 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn. Submissions and completed paper surveys may be emailed to [email protected] or mailed to: Golden Plains Shire Council, PO Box 111, Bannockburn, VIC, 3331, marked ‘Attention: Domestic Wastewater Management Plan’.
