Safer Approach to She Oaks Bridge

New signage is helping to keep drivers safe crossing Sharp Road Bridge in She Oaks.

Works were completed earlier this year on the project which installed flashing warning signage on the approaches to the single-lane Sharp Road Bridge as it crosses the Moorabool River. The solar powered LED warning signs sense approaching traffic and provide drivers with extra warning of oncoming vehicles.

Supported by the local Maude-She Oaks-Steiglitz Community Planning Group, the project was a partnership project, with $17,360 from the Victorian Government’s Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program and $10,000 from Golden Plains Shire Council.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Helena Kirby says the partnership project has made the crossing safer for the community.

“The new flashing signage on the Sharp Road Bridge is a great result for the local community, giving drivers extra warning of any oncoming vehicles as they cross over the Moorabool River.

“The local community in the Maude, She Oaks and Steiglitz area are active campaigners for increased road safety in the area, and Council was pleased to work with the Victorian Government to deliver this small but important road safety project.”

In February, Member for Buninyong Michaela Settle MP announced the Victorian Government’s $17,360 funding contribution to the project.

“The new warning signs on Sharp Road Bridge will help save lives and reduce road trauma in our community.”

“The Andrews Government has invested heavily in rural and regional roads and this includes recent record investments in road maintenance and road upgrades.”

The installation of the warning signage will add to the significant safety improvements Council has already completed in the area in recent years, including the $1.6 million new Coopers Bridge on Meredith-Steiglitz Road and $1.485 million widening of 3km of Maude-She Oaks Road that were both completed in 2020, as well as the $2.3 million replacement of the nearby Slate Quarry Road Bridge in Meredith.
