New Bore Ready For Fire Season

General
Cambrian Hill

The new and improved bore at Heinzs Road, Cambrian Hill is now in operation.

In September 2020, Council closed the old bore, stand and tank on the site due to safety concerns. From 15 December 2020 to 15 January 2021, Council invited Cambrian Hill, Ross Creek and Napoleons residents to have their say on the future of the bore and how they used the water from the old facility. Council received 75 responses from community members, with a strong preference for the bore to be replaced.

Following the feedback, Council committed to the replacement of the bore in the Council Budget 2021/22 and fully funded the works at a cost of $48,208. Works to remove the old bore and install a new pump, tank, fencing and underground drainage were completed in the last three months, and the new bore was commissioned on Wednesday 1 December, 2021.

Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble says Council was pleased to fund and deliver the upgraded bore ahead of the fire season.

“The old bore, tank and stand at Heinzs Road unfortunately needed to be closed last year due to safety concerns. Following community consultation in late 2020 and early 2021, Council committed to fund the replacement of this important facility for the community in Cambrian Hill, Ross Creek and Napoleons.

“Works to replace the old bore with brand new equipment were recently completed and now the Cambrian Hill bore is back in action ready for the upcoming start of the Fire Danger Period.

“Golden Plains Shire Council operates four publicly accessible bores, which are free to use for Golden Plains Shire residents for stock and domestic supply. These are often very important over the summer months and are relied on by some residents for their fire plan.”

The Fire Danger Period begins in Golden Plains Shire at 1am, Monday 13 December, 2021. For more information on bores and standpipes in Golden Plains Shire, visit goldenplains.vic.gov.au/standpipes.
