Let's acknowledge the spirit of connecting National Volunteer Week.
Held annually, National Volunteer Week takes place from 18–24 May 2026, providing a dedicated time to recognise and celebrate volunteering.
First established in 1989, National Volunteer Week is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering. It provides an important opportunity to recognise and thank the millions of Australians who generously give their time, skills and energy to support others and strengthen communities.
This week serves two key purposes: to highlight the vital role volunteers play in shaping inclusive, resilient communities, and to inspire others to experience the personal and social rewards that volunteering can bring.
This year’s theme, “Your Year to Volunteer,” celebrates the contributions of volunteers while encouraging individuals across Golden Plains Shire to make 2026 a year of meaningful involvement in ways that suit their lives and interests.
It is a time to acknowledge the hundreds of volunteers who dedicate their time across the Shire, supporting local organisations, events and initiatives that enrich community life. Their efforts help foster a sense of connection, belonging and wellbeing for all.
National Volunteer Week also extends an open invitation to those who have not yet volunteered, offering an opportunity to discover how contributing time and talents can create purpose, build relationships and generate lasting positive change.
The spirit of volunteering is deeply embedded within Golden Plains Shire. Volunteers play a crucial role in building strong, inclusive and thriving communities, and this week is an opportunity to formally recognise their invaluable contributions.
As we celebrate, we also encourage residents to explore how they can get involved. Whether through lending a helping hand at local events, supporting community groups, or sharing professional skills, every contribution makes a difference.
