Not everything belongs in the mixed recycling bin (yellow lid) - and even a few wrong items can cause big problems.
🚫 Contamination happens when the incorrect items end up in the wrong bin. This can:
- Risk the health and safety of sorters.
- Ruin the efforts of other people who have put the correct items into their recycling bins.
- Compromise the quality of recycling materials.
- Add to the cost of recycling. Having to pay to handle and dispose of contaminated recyclables costs us and our community a lot of money.
We understand that recycling and waste sorting can be tricky sometimes. With so many different types of items and materials going into our bins, we don’t always get it right.
