The Golden Plains Shire Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee (MEMPC) is seeking Expressions of Interest from community members to join the Committee in a voluntary capacity.

The MEMPC is a multi-agency Committee responsible for developing and maintaining a plan that addresses emergencies within the municipal footprint. The Golden Plains Shire MEMPC is made up of representatives from the CFA, Ambulance Victoria, Victoria Police, FRV, ERV, VIC SES, VCC-EM, Red Cross, St John Ambulance, and Golden Plains Shire Council.

Locals who are passionate about their community and want to be involved in the development and implementation of strategies to ensure community safety during emergency events are encouraged to apply.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Owen Sharkey encouraged interested community members to join the Committee.

The Committee is on the lookout for someone who has an understanding of the Victorian Emergency Management arrangements and has strong community links, Cr Sharkey said.

You’ll work with the rest of the Committee to identify, analyse and evaluate emergency related links, discuss and develop mitigations, prepare response and recovery plans and participate in exercises.

Expression of Interest (EOI) are invited from Thursday 5 February to 5pm, Tuesday 3 March 2026 and can be completed at goldenplains.vic.gov.au/consultations. Hard copy EOI forms are also available at Council’s Customer Hubs at 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn, and 19 Heales Street, Smythesdale.

Being an active member or employee of an Emergency Management agency does not preclude applicants from applying, however, they will be representing the Golden Plains Shire community, not their agency on the committee.

The MEMPC meets twice per year (generally in May and October) at the Golden Plains Civic Centre in Bannockburn.
