Golden Plains Shire Council will begin works to deliver Stage 2 of the Inverleigh Tree Succession Plan in late April 2026.
Progress of the Inverleigh Tree Succession Plan to date includes the completion of all Stage 1 tree and stump removals, as well as the successful establishment of Stage 1 and 2 plantings. Species planted to date include Eucalyptus cinerea, Eucalyptus camaldulensis, Quercus lobata, and Angophora floribunda, all of which are performing well. These species were identified as preferred through the community consultation process undertaken in 2022.
Stage 2 will involve the removal of 24 ageing Cypress trees and 31 stumps and is expected to be completed by the end of May 2026, subject to weather and site conditions. Traffic delays are expected throughout this time and will be managed by traffic control.
A community mulch pick up point will be available at the western approach to Inverleigh, within the camping area. Residents are welcome to collect mulch for personal use throughout the duration of the works.
Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Owen Sharkey said it was fantastic to see the Inverleigh Tree Succession Plan progressing to Stage 2 works.
The Inverleigh Tree Succession Plan provides a clear and considered approach for reinstating trees throughout the township. It also sets out how Council will continue to manage both significant mature trees and the new plantings across the four key locations in Inverleigh.
We appreciate the community’s patience as we’ve worked through the planning and preparation needed for this next stage. This work is an important part of renewing the much-loved tree avenues in Inverleigh, and we’re grateful for the community’s ongoing support as we continue this long-term project.
The Cypress avenues have been an iconic part of Inverleigh’s eastern and western entrances for generations. As these trees reach the end of their natural life, replacing them with more suitable species is an important step in ensuring our gateways remain welcoming and visually striking for years to come. This transition will help maintain acceptable levels of tree-related risk while preserving the character of these entrances.
Following the completion of Stage 2 removals, reinstatement works—such as re levelling and reseeding—will take place in August and September 2026.
Stage 3 planting is scheduled for March and April 2027 and will include the installation of approximately 60 Angophora floribunda trees, further contributing to the long-term renewal of Inverleigh’s iconic entry avenues.
