CELEBRATING THE ‘JOURNEY TO THE G’

Golden Plains Shire Council is proud to be part of the 150th Anniversary of one of the most remarkable achievements in Australia’s sporting and cultural history. We welcomed Ian Coutts, Secretary of the Mullagh Wills Foundation Committee to tell us more about the ‘Journey to the G’ before our August Council meeting. Council is pleased to accept the Message Book and will include a formal message of reconciliation and support of the Aboriginal Cricket Team in the Book before circulating the book to gather messages of goodwill from sporting groups and schools within the municipality.

TELL US WHAT YOU THINK – MUNICIPAL STRATEGIC STATEMENT

Council’s Municipal Strategic Statement (‘MSS’) and Local Planning Policy Framework (‘LPPF’) have been updated to ensure it sets out the current vision for land use and development in Golden Plains Shire and you’re invited to have your say. These important documents will guide decision making on planning applications and sets out ways to address population and housing growth, while sustaining farming and agriculture and protecting environmental values and assets. To review the documents and tell us your thoughts, visit www.goldenplainsdigital.com.au/consultations

COUNCIL HOLDS SEVEN OFFICIAL OPENINGS

Over August and September Council will hold seven official openings to celebrate completed projects in the Shire. These official openings are being held throughout the Shire and are a great example of some of the work Council does to support our communities, whether it be through building something or lobbying State and Federal Government for funding support.

  • Dereel Skate Park Upgrade Project and Skate Park Graffiti Prevention Project
  • Dereel Hall Upgrade
  • Woady Yaloak Recreation Reserve: Female Change Facilities/ Woady Recreation Reserve BMX Upgrade
  • Inverleigh Cricket Nets
  • Dereel Men’s Shed
  • Redevelopment of Fuel Infrastructure at the Lethbridge Airport
  • Smythesdale Business and Wellbeing Hub Upgrade Project

More information is available on our website at www.goldenplainsdigital.com.au/news

And lastly, as the Local Government elections are being held in October (don’t forget to vote!), this is the last Mayor’s Message from me as a part of the 2012-16 term of Council. On behalf of Council I’d like to thank all of our residents for making Golden Plains the best place in the world to live.

Cr Des Phelan
Mayor, Golden Plains Shire Council
