Future Food Organics Garden Organics Service Survey

FOGO Survey
Waste Management

Golden Plains Shire Council invites residents to have their say on the future Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) service through an online survey.

Under Victorian Government legislation, all Councils must move to a standard four-bin system: red for general waste, yellow for mixed recycling, purple for glass and lime green for combined food and garden organics (FOGO).

Council is actively working towards introducing a FOGO bin, aligning with the expected operational launch of the Regional Renewable Organics Network (RRON) facility. This is currently anticipated by early 2027.

Golden Plains Shire Council Mayor Cr Owen Sharkey said residents were invited to help shape the delivery of the new service through an online survey.

“Council has commenced planning for the introduction of a Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) service, in line with Victorian Government legislation. As part of this process, we are inviting community input through a short survey,” Cr Sharkey said.

“This survey will provide valuable insights into how residents currently manage food and garden waste, what’s working well, the challenges people face, and how we can best communicate about the upcoming FOGO service.”

The online survey is available from Thursday 26 June until 5pm, Wednesday 23 July 2025 and can be completed at goldenplains.vic.gov.au. Hard copies of the survey are available at Council’s Customer Hubs at 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn and 19 Heales Street, Smythesdale.

People who complete the survey can choose to go into the draw to win one of two $50 Woolworths vouchers. Terms and conditions apply.
