The Inverleigh Football, Netball and Cricket Club are set to receive a major boost, with new lighting upgrades on the second oval now confirmed following a recent funding announcement. This investment marks an important step in expanding capacity at the Inverleigh Recreation Reserve and supporting the growing needs
of local players and volunteers.
Member for Eureka, Michaela Settle MP was joined by Mayor Cr Owen Sharkey and Inverleigh Football, Netball and Cricket Club representatives on Saturday 16 June to announce funding for the project. The Inverleigh Football, Netball & Cricket Club, together with AFL Barwon, identified this project as a major priority for the future of the Inverleigh Recreation Reserve. At present, only one oval has lighting that meets required standards, forcing every football team to train in the same space after dark. On the busiest nights, more than 100 players are sharing a single oval, creating safety concerns, limiting the quality of coaching, and placing additional pressure on volunteers.
Installing new LED lighting on the second oval will allow training to be spread across the reserve, improving safety and ensuring all teams have fair and consistent access to facilities. Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Owen Sharkey said this lighting upgrade will improve safety and give all teams fair access.
“Upgrading the lighting on Inverleigh’s second oval is a big win for our growing sporting community. With more than 100 players often training at once, this investment will make evenings safer, fairer and far more enjoyable for everyone who uses the reserve,” Cr Sharkey said.
“Council will work closely with the Committee of Management and all user groups to ensure the community received the full benefit of this exciting project,” he said.
This project is fully funded with $320,000 from the Victorian Government.
