Free Deliveries to Food Relief Pantries Begin in Golden Plains Shire

Geelong Foodshare story
Community

Geelong Foodshare has been awarded a Community Food Relief Program Coordination Grant by the Victorian Government to establish a new food distribution system across Western Victoria, including the Golden Plains Shire.

As a key partner in the Golden Plains Local Food Network, Geelong Foodshare has played an important role in shaping the Network's three-year action plan and continues to support in the delivery of actions around food security.

This partnership enables free delivery of food supplies to our pantries in Linton, Meredith, Rokewood and Cape Clear. Previously, food relief efforts relied on volunteers travelling to Ballarat and Geelong to collect donations. With deliveries now handled through this initiative, our volunteers can dedicate more time directly supporting individuals and families in need.

The next stage of the partnership with Geelong Foodshare will deliver food relief while also collecting donations from local producers – reducing food waste and building on our circular food system for Golden Plains Shire.

Council thanks all our partners, including community volunteers, Geelong Foodshare, Linton Food Pantry, representatives from Haddon Community Learning Centre and Meredith Community Centre, the Golden Plains Local Food Network, the Hesse Rural Health team at Rokewood and the Cape Clear Hall Committee.
