Free Breastfeeding Support at Upgraded Spaces

Breastfeeding Support
Child & Family Services

Golden Plains Shire Council is excited to announce enhanced support for breastfeeding mothers and families with upgraded facilities and complimentary breastfeeding advice sessions across the Shire.

Thanks to a $5,000 allocation from the Victorian Local Government Partnership with VicHealth, existing breastfeeding spaces at the Bannockburn Family Services Centre, Bannockburn Cultural Centre, Meredith Community Centre and The Well in Smythesdale have been significantly improved.

These locations provide a comfortable, safe and private space, fostering a welcoming environment for mothers and families. To celebrate this initiative, Council is offering free breastfeeding support with a Maternal Child Health Nurse.

Mothers and families can drop-in to see one of our Maternal Child Health Nurses for breastfeeding advice on the following days:

  • Monday 21 July from 10am to 12pm at The Well in Smythesdale.
  • Monday 21 July from 1.30 to 3.30pm at the Meredith Community Centre.
  • Thursday 24 July from 10am to 12pm at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre.

Attendees can also claim a free breastfeeding starter pack by attending one of the drop-in sessions.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Owen Sharkey encourages mothers and families to attend a drop-in session and check out the new spaces.

We are pleased to be able to provide this fantastic initiative along with our upgraded breastfeeding friendly spaces in Bannockburn, Meredith and Smythesdale, Cr Sharkey said.

Our friendly Maternal Child Health Nurses will be on-site at the drop-in sessions to assist with breastfeeding support. This is a fantastic opportunity for new mothers and families to see the new spaces and receive advice and encouragement when breastfeeding.
