Golden Plains Shire Council has recently commenced work to improve and repair footpaths at locations within Golden Plains Shire as part of Council’s Footpath Renewal Program.

The works include the upgrade of a gravel footpath along Ross Creek-Haddon Road in Haddon, repairs to a footpath north of the intersection of Cambridge Street and Newman Street in Inverleigh due to flood damage, and the installation of a gravel footpath at Ferrars Road in Rokewood.

Council is also working to improve a number of footpaths surrounding local schools including the installation of a new concrete footpath in front of Rokewood Primary School and works to improve the asphalt along Sago Hill Road in front of Haddon Primary School. These works are expected to be finished in late January before students return.

Works to improve the Tannery Road Floodway in Scarsdale are also set to begin later this month. Council will improve and increase the number of culverts along the existing floodway and replace the existing pedestrian walkway with a levelled surface to provide safe shared access for all pedestrians.

Council regularly works to identify upgrade projects, through hazard inspections, accident statistics and feedback from the community, as well as in locations where there are increased traffic movements around schools, recreation and community facilities or new developments that create increased pedestrian movements.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham said pedestrian safety improvements are a top priority for Council.

"Council is committed to providing well maintained, connected and accessible crossings and paths for all Golden Plains Shire residents. Pedestrian safety improvements are an important priority for communities across the Shire and Council meets regularly with the Department of Transport to advocate for pedestrian and road safety improvements on their roads."
