Council Meeting Summary: 8 June 2021

The Council Meeting to hear submissions on the Draft Council Plan 2021-2025, Draft Golden Plains Shire Council Budget 2021-2022 and Review of Mayoral and Councillor Allowances was held virtually on Zoom last night, Tuesday 8 June, with all Councillors in attendance. In line with COVID-19 restrictions for regional Victoria, members of the public were unable to attend the meeting in-person, however, the meeting was livestreamed on Council’s website and YouTube page.

Draft Golden Plains Shire Council Budget 2021-2022 Submissions

Council’s Draft Budget for the next financial year was on public exhibition from 1 to 31 May, 2021, and during this time Council received 14 submissions from community members. Three community members requested to present their submissions to Council at the meeting, with issues primarily relating to concerns with the Waste Charge, the reduce Farm rates, the Municipal Charge and how Council should consider a more deliberative engagement process in future years. Council formally received and noted all the submissions.

Draft council plan 2021-2025 submissions

The Draft Council Plan is a strategic plan that details Council’s priorities and investment in Golden Plains Shire over the next four years. The Draft Council Plan was on public exhibition from 28 April to 26 May, 2021, and Council received 10 submissions from the public. Three submitters requested to be heard at the meeting, and presented their feedback which was focused on environmental management and health and wellbeing. Council formally received and noted all the submissions, with many of the issues or comments already addressed in the Draft Council Plan or will be incorporated in the final version.

Review of mayoral and councillor allowances submissions

Council is reviewing its Mayoral and Councillor Allowances as required under Victorian legislation, and community members were able to make a submission from 27 April to 25 May, 2021. During this time, Council received five submissions which all raised concern with the proposed increase to the Councillor allowances. None of the submitters requested to present their submission at the meeting, and Council formally received and noted the written submissions.

 

The next meeting of Council will be held on Tuesday 29 June, 2021 at the Golden Plains Civic Centre, 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn and available by livestream.
