Council focussed on connecting with the community

Media Release

Golden Plains Shire Council invites the local community to help shape its new Communications and Marketing Strategy 2019-21.

Starting Monday 3 September, Council is undertaking a Shire-wide community consultation in an effort to learn what the community wants to know and how they want Council to connect with them.

Community engagement activities include an online survey, community workshops and interactive conversation posts in the north and south of the Shire.

Cr Helena Kirby, Mayor of Golden Plains Shire Council, says that this affects every resident and rate payer, and encourages people to speak up.

“Local government is the most accessible form of government for most people, and we have a lot of information that it’s important people to know.”

“This Strategy will set out a pathway for how Council’s communications can support the Strategic Directions in our Council Plan 2017-2020, which were developed in close consultation with our community.

“We want to make sure we are improving how we connect with our communities and sharing important, useful information in the best way possible.

“Community input will help us better understand how the community wants to connect with Council and guide our future communications and marketing priorities and activities within our existing resources.

“I encourage residents to get involved and have their say, in this and in the three other important Council strategies currently in development; the Play Space Strategy survey is also open now and has three community workshops over the next week, the Arts and Culture Strategy that will soon be open for review, and the Waste Strategy, which is kicking off with a detailed community survey included with the October edition of the Gazette that we would love residents to fill out.

“We genuinely want community input to shape these important strategies – your voice will be heard,” she concluded.
