Golden Plains Shire Council adopted the Financial Plan 2025-2035 (the Plan) at its meeting on 28 October 2025.

This important document outlines how Council plans to manage its finances over the next decade, ensuring the responsible use of funds for operations, services and infrastructure projects.

The plan acts as a roadmap, forecasting revenues, expenditures, and capital investments, to ensure financial decisions align with both community priorities and legislative requirements.

Community members were encouraged to contribute to the development of the Financial Plan and other integrated plans through a series of engagement activities in late 2024 and early 2025. The draft Financial Plan was placed on a period of public exhibition in August and September 2025.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Owen Sharkey says the adoption of the Financial Plan enables the community to understand how Council funds are being managed and allocated.

The Financial Plan serves as a strategic framework for the responsible management of Council’s financial resources over the short, medium and long term. It provides a ten-year financial projection on how the actions in the Council Plan are funded to achieve the Community Vision, Cr Sharkey said.

Being in local government, we face a number of pressures including a fast-growing community. We hope to have longer-term conversations with the community as Council works through its strategic decision making over the next few years to support this Plan.
