Council Adopts Equestrian Centre Masterplan

Woady Yaloak Equestrian Centre Masterplan Adopted

The Woady Yaloak Equestrian Centre Masterplan 2022-2032 (the Masterplan) was adopted by Golden Plains Shire Council at its meeting on Tuesday 23 August.

The Masterplan provides a guide for the future improvement and development of the Woady Yaloak Equestrian Centre to meet increasing demand, address safety concerns, and provide enhanced opportunities and experiences for participants and spectators.

Developed following extensive consultation with representatives from the Woady Yaloak Equestrian Centre Committee of Management and tenant clubs, Council staff, Equestrian Governing Bodies and the Golden Plains community, the Masterplan will inform strategic planning and the development of priorities for future infrastructure and programming opportunities at the facility.

The Masterplan provides clear and prioritised recommendations across six different categories: equestrian arenas; structures; parking; arena circulation; landscaping; and gates, access and other. With the identified improvements focused on increasing both the accessibility and usability of the Woady Yaloak Equestrian Centre, the Masterplan is designed to support the facility to become a primary centre for equestrian in the region, with the ability to host large-scale, high-level events.

At its 23 August meeting, Council also noted the Woady Yaloak Equestrian Centre Research Report, which provides extensive background research on the community need, benefit and sustainability of the Masterplan, alongside indicative costs and potential funding opportunities.

Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble said the adoption of the Woady Yaloak Equestrian Centre Masterplan is an important step towards establishing the facility as first-class equestrian centre in the region.

“Council is very pleased to adopt the Woady Yaloak Equestrian Centre Masterplan and we thank all of the community members who shared their valuable input during its development.

“The Woady Yaloak Equestrian Centre is the Shire’s only regional level sporting facility and is home to four local riding clubs, providing the local community with a range of opportunities for equestrian participation, including dressage, eventing, show jumping, pony club and adult riding clubs. It’s good to now have a plan in place to grow the Centre and help create a more accessible and useable community facility for all users.

“This Masterplan provides a guide for the future development of the Centre and will be a valuable asset for Council as we advocate for funding opportunities to make these recommendations a reality.”
