Golden Plains Shire Council’s Youth Development Team, in partnership with the Department of Justice and Community Safety’s Crime Prevention Project is launching a Council program for recognising and celebrating the achievements of young people aged 12 to 25 across Golden Plains Shire.

The Youth Recognition Program aims to recognise the achievements and contributions of young people in our community and celebrate their accomplishments. As part of the program, community members are invited to nominate a local young person aged 12 to 25 and celebrate their achievements in the community.

Each month, a young person will be selected and celebrated on Council’s website and social media channels as Young Person of the Month.

Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham encouraged community members to nominate an outstanding young person for their achievements.

Young people aged between 5 and 24 years make up over 27% of the Golden Plains Shire population which is the fifth highest in Victoria. Providing an opportunity to recognise the achievements and contributions of young people in our community is important in highlighting the value and abilities of local young people.

By recognising the efforts of young people, we can also encourage others to engage, connect and contribute positively within their communities.

Community members can nominate a young person for the Youth Recognition Program online at goldenplains.vic.gov.au/youth-recognition-program. Printed copies of the submission form are available at Council’s Customer Hubs, Golden Plains Civic Centre, 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn and The Well, 19 Heales Street, Smythesdale.

For more information, contact Council’s Youth Development Team on 5220 7111 or email [email protected].

The Youth Recognition Program is supported by the Victorian Government’s Engage! Program and Crime Prevention Project funded by the Department of Justice and Community Safety.
