To celebrate National Volunteer Week 2025, Golden Plains Shire Council will recognise local volunteer groups and individuals with daily social media posts. Council will also launch the 2025 Volunteers in Action photographic Exhibition, which will be on display at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre before the exhibition travels up north to Smythesdale later this year.
The photographs in the Volunteers in Action Exhibition showcase Golden Plains Shire volunteers contributing to their local communities and were captured by Golden Plains Youth volunteers. Additionally, there will be daily social media posts highlighting the invaluable contributions of these volunteers and how they make a difference in Golden Plains Shire.
Golden Plains Shire Acting Mayor Cr Helena Kirby said National Volunteer Week is a fantastic opportunity to recognise and celebrate the contribution of local volunteers.
“The Volunteers in Action Exhibition aims to capture moments that go unnoticed and highlight the everyday, helping the community gain new appreciation for the contributions volunteers make to Golden Plains Shire,” Cr Kirby said.
“The photographs in the Exhibition were captured by youth volunteers who went out and visited volunteers in their communities, doing what they love. This intergenerational project has provided wonderful opportunities for all, and it was wonderful for the young volunteers to have the chance to meet other volunteers and see them in action.
“We will also be recognising these local volunteers each day on social media. We encourage you to read these profiles and understand the enormous contributions of volunteers across the Shire.”
The Volunteers in Action Exhibition will be on display at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre before moving to The Well in Smythesdale and the Golden Plains Civic Centre in Bannockburn later in the year.
National Volunteer Week 2025 runs from 19 to 25 May and celebrates the power of volunteering to bring people together with the theme ‘Connecting Communities’. Let’s acknowledge the spirit of connection and the incredible impact volunteers have in building inclusive and thriving communities.
