Call out for Tourism Advisory Committee Members

Tourism
Business & Economic Development

Golden Plains Shire Council is inviting Expressions of Interest (EOI) from community members and local industry voices to put their hand up to join one of our new Tourism Advisory Committees.

Residents with a strong connection to their local community are encouraged to apply. The committees will bring together community members and local industry representatives to act as a knowledgeable sounding board, offering grounded and practical advice to guide Council’s tourism planning.

Council is calling for people who can help ensure tourism development reflects the realities, opportunities and character of each part of the Shire. Two committees will be established that cover the entire municipality – one for the North and one for the South – each focused on the unique strengths and challenges of its region. Members will contribute ideas on developing local tourism products, enhancing visitor experiences, promoting events, improving signage and wayfinding, and identifying emerging funding or partnership opportunities.

By sharing their insights and lived experience, committee members will play a vital role in shaping a visitor economy that is genuine, sustainable and aligned with the Shire’s strategic direction. Council hopes to draw on the knowledge of those who know the region best to help ensure tourism growth benefits local communities and supports a thriving future for the Shire.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Owen Sharkey encouraged interested community members to apply.

Our Tourism Advisory Committees give locals a real voice in shaping how tourism grows across the Shire. We want people who can share practical insight into the opportunities and challenges in their own communities, Cr Sharkey said.

You don’t need to be a tourism expert to get involved. What matters is a genuine connection to your area and an interest in helping Golden Plains thrive. Experience in tourism, events or hospitality is a bonus, but passion counts most, he said.

Committee members will gain early insight into Council projects, build strong local connections and help create
a visitor experience that is sustainable, authentic and truly reflective of our region.

Community members are invited to submit their EOI from Thursday 26 March until 5pm, Thursday 23 April by visiting goldenplains.vic.gov.au/consultations. Hard copy EOI forms will also be available at Council’s Customer Hubs, 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn, and 19 Heales Street, Smythesdale.
