Community Grants recipients 2016-17

On Tuesday 28 June 2016 Council resolved to allocate Community Grants to 47 organisations, to a total value of $144,966, and last night we held a celebration event.

From cubbies to carols, fridges to fencing, these grants empower community groups to deliver enormous value in their local area.

With a return of $2.62 for every dollar granted by Council, these projects will deliver an amazing benefit to Golden Plains’ communities. Successful applicants will complete their projects over the 2016/17 year. Congratulations to all the worthy recipients!

Install outdoor seating

To install some outdoor seating on the east side of the Bannockburn Tennis clubrooms.

BBQ facility upgrade

To construct a heritage carport over the BBQ and eating area.

Cape Clear Recreation Reserve Committee of Management

Water reserve for emergency - a safer Cape Clear

Purchase and install two 5,000 gallon water tanks for water to be held in reserve for emergency use.

Garibaldi Landcare Group

Promoting community education and engagement at South Durham Bridge Reserve & Hardies Hill Water Reserve

Construct and erect display signs at the South Durham Bridge Reserve & Hardies Hill Water Reserve.

Purchase of a basic marquee suitable for holding Landcare stalls at the Bannockburn Farmers Market.

Pavilion enhancement project

Purchase of two commercial fridges, commercial coffee machine and data projector.

Purchase of fairway mower

Replacement of defunct gang mower with refurbished second hand 5 gang trailed fairway mower.

Kindergarten improvements

Upgrade current bench arrangement, purchase of a new BBQ and gas bottle and installation of a new garden shed.

Leighdale Pony Club

‘The Golden Arena'

Conversion of the existing smaller dressage arenas at Leighdale Equestrian Centre into one large area (90m x 90m).

Lethbridge Cricket Club

Replace cricket pitch - second oval

Replacement of the existing centre wicket on the second oval.

Lethbridge Public Hall

Splash a bit more love on our hall

Painting the toilets and making improvements to disabled access and parking.

Lethbridge Recreation Reserve Committee of Management

Facility improvements and upgrades

New blinds and upgrade to essential cleaning items for the toilets and kitchen.

Life Saving Victoria

Sink or swim - water safety in the Golden Plains Shire

In-land water body safety program ‘Sink or Swim’ to be run out of primary schools and child care centres within the Shire.

Restoration of Nelson's Undertaker's building - Stage 4

Stage 4 involves completing the repair work and repainting of the remaining exterior walls, including repainting of the historic Nelson's Undertakers sign by heritage sign writers.

The design and construction of entrance fencing, gateways and landscaping at both the Campion Rd & Nuttall St entrances to present welcoming entry points to the reserve.

Refurbish cricket training nets

Refurbish cricket nets by replacing matting, wire mesh and nylon netting. Minor concrete work to fix cracking.

Real Food Festival - taste of Golden Plains

A festival of events in Inverleigh over 1-2 weeks celebrating local food producers and suppliers, connecting residents of GPS with their food system.

Rokewood “Hoppers” Football Club  – hopping into watering our oval automatically

Purchase of an electric pump and controller to operate a travelling sprinkler (irrigator).

Enlargement of the existing dam and upgrading current pump and infrastructure by installing pump station and then laying poly pipe to all the relevant areas.

Renewal of cross country jumps at the Woady Yaloak Equestrian Centre.

Public pathways in Ross Creek Reserve

Increase the length of shared bicycle/walking paths in the Ross Creek Nature Reserve.

Movie time at Ross Creek

Installation of a projector, screen and speakers into the Ross Creek Hall.

Scarsdale Community Coordinators

Scarsdale "Exercise Station" stage 1

The Scarsdale exercise station will involve the redevelopment of the former Scarsdale Railway station site providing a community recreation open space. Stage 1 involves ground works to prepare the site for a mini soccer pitch, exercise station and car park and the construction of a garden maze.

This project involves the replacement of existing crockery and the construction of an outdoor BBQ area with shelter.

The project is to fit a new entrance gate to the reserve, erect a reserve sign and history board, purchase seating, a flagpole and plaques naming former teachers of the district and also construct a rockery garden.

To install four 15 amp external power outlets to improve the provision of power externally and install protective roller blinds for the hall mirrors.

Create a new and safer entry point and establish a vehicle access gate for emergency services and for maintenance purposes.

A health promotion initiative that will look at engaging residents with a disability, stay at home mums and those wishing to return to exercise in new group exercise programs and a new modified Australian Football program.
