DrumMUSTER is a national product stewardship program that focuses on the collection and recycling of eligible, empty, and clean agricultural and veterinary (AgVet) chemical containers. Established to promote environmental sustainability, drumMUSTER offers a safe, cost-effective, and responsible recycling solution for these containers—providing benefits to chemical users, the environment, industry, and the broader community.
Golden Plains Shire Council has established FREE drumMUSTER collection centre at the Rokewood Transfer Station. Learn below how to prepare and drop off your drums for recycling:
- Prepare your drums
Before bringing your chemical containers to a drumMUSTER collection point, make sure to
- triple rinse them to remove any chemical residue.
- After rinsing, remove the lids and allow the containers to dry completely.
-Since lids can’t be recycled, dispose of them responsibly. It's also important to ensure your containers meet the program’s criteria—clean, free from contamination, and displaying the eligible drumMUSTER logo.
- Drop off your containers
On the day of collection, bring your prepared containers to the Rokewood Transfer Station. When you arrive, collection staff will inspect the containers to ensure they meet the cleanliness standards. Once accepted, your containers will be counted and recorded for recycling.
- Containers are recycled
After drop-off, your containers are transported to recycling facilities where they are processed into useful products like plastic pipes, fence posts, and even new chemical drums. By recycling through drumMUSTER, you're helping conserve resources and reduce the need for new raw materials.
BagMUSTER is an industry-led, not-for-profit program dedicated to addressing single-use plastic bag waste in Australian agriculture. Operated by Agsafe, bagMUSTER offers a structured,
sustainable solution for collecting and recycling agricultural plastic bags, specifically single-use polypropylene (PP) bags used for fertilisers, seeds, grain, stock feed, and pet food.
Golden Plains Shire Council has established a FREE BagMUSTER collection centre at the Rokewood Transfer Station
Learn below how to prepare and drop off your agricultural bags for recycling:
- Purchase bags: Farmers and growers purchase eligible bags from participating retailers. Only bags sold through participating retailers and purchased after 1 October 2024 are eligible for recycling through bagMUSTER.
- Collect and store: After using the contents of the bags, you should collect and store the empty bags until you are ready to recycle them. Bags should be kept dry and stored in a sheltered area to prevent contamination by mud, water, or other materials
- Prepare bags: Before recycling, ensure all bags are clean, empty, and free of non-PP liners. Bags should be shaken out, liners removed, and neatly folded, rolled to make them easier to handle.
- Drop off: Take your bags to the Rokewood Transfer Station for free.
- Processed and recycled: The bags are then sent for recycling, ensuring that they are responsibly processed and repurposed into new products.
Not Accepted:
- Commercial waste
- Asbestos
- Chemicals
