Golden Plains Youth Hub has been upgraded to accommodate more young people and will reopen on Monday 7 August.

Minor facility upgrade works including the installation of an all gender, ambulant toilet, have now been completed and the venue’s capacity has increased from 20 people to 75 people.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham said the upgraded Youth Hub gave Council greater flexibility in delivering important youth programs and initiatives.

Increasing the capacity at the Golden Plains Youth Hub has greatly increased Council’s ability to offer more programs at the Youth Hub and run multiple programs concurrently. We’ll also now look to attract additional external organisations to increase the range of co-located services and programs available to young people in our Shire.

We’re really excited to be able to support more young people at the Youth Hub, helping them connect with their peers and engage in meaningful programs to support their social, mental and physical wellbeing.

Council’s Youth Development team supports and actively promotes the inclusion of all young people, including those from diverse backgrounds. The Golden Plains Youth Hub is a safe space for all young people regardless of their race, culture, gender, sexuality or ability.

There are ongoing programs at the venue four days a week during school term. These include youth art, cooking sessions, Youth Activation Committee (YAC) meetings, Robotics sessions and FReeZA youth events crew initiatives. The Youth Hub also hosts school holiday activities and drop-in sessions where young people can socialise in a safe space.

The Youth Hub promotes overall wellbeing, providing healthy food options with a youth-run edible garden onsite often contributing to program catering.

Council supported young people in the Shire with online and in-person programs at alternate venues while the Youth Hub upgrade took place between May and July 2023.
