Golden Plains Shire Council is excited to offer free work readiness training for young people aged 14 to 25 in food handling, first aid and barista training in October and November 2023.

Funded by the Victorian Government’s Engage! Program, the Golden Plains Shire Youth Work Readiness Program ensures young people are positively engaged in education and have the knowledge and skills to progress to further education and employment.

Work Readiness Program courses available in October and November include:

  • Saturday 21 October, 9.30am to 4pm – Food Handing at Golden Plains Youth Hub, Milton Street, Bannockburn.
  • Saturday 4 November, 9.30am to 4pm – First Aid at Golden Plains Youth Hub, Milton Street, Bannockburn.
  • Saturday 18 November, 10am to 1pm – Barista Training at Golden Plains Youth Hub, Milton Street, Bannockburn.

These free training sessions are designed to ensure all young people have the opportunity to attend. Transport is available to young people outside Bannockburn and registration is essential as places are limited. Contact the Youth team on 5220 7111 to discuss transport options.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham said engaging with these courses gave young people a clear pathway into further education or employment opportunities.

“We’re really excited to offer this free training because we know that building work skills and accessing the support to enter the workforce can be a challenge for young people in regional areas,” Cr Cunningham said.

“With the ongoing support of the Victorian Government, Council is committed to providing opportunities for young people to build capacity and learn professional skills that give them the best chance to realise their education and employment goals.”
