Weather Update: Council Facility Closures

Weather Update

Recent and continuing heavy rainfall has caused flooding, affecting roads, homes and infrastructure throughout Golden Plains Shire.

All residents are reminded not to drive, walk or ride through flood waters and are encouraged to drive with caution as they travel through the Shire.

Stay up to date via the VicEmergency website or app here.

Due to the severe weather and heavy rainfall, a number of Council facilities will be closing on Thursday 13 October and will remain closed on Friday 14 October.

Customer Hubs:

  • The Smythesdale Customer Hub at The Well, 19 Heales Street, will be closed from 3pm, Thursday 13 October and will remain closed on Friday 14 October, reopening at 8.30am, Monday 18 October.
The Customer experience Team will still be available to assist community members, by phone on 5220 7111 or by email at [email protected]. The sand bagging station at 19 Heales Street is not impacted by this closure.
  • The Bannockburn Customer Hub at 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn will remain open.

Kindergartens:

  • Council operated Kindergartens in Rokewood, Teesdale and Inverleigh will be closed on Friday 14 October.

Maternal Child Health:

  • Appointments for Maternal Child Health services in Rokewood and Teesdale scheduled for Friday 14 October will now be undertaken online or rescheduled to next week.
  • The Bannockburn Maternal Child Health service is scheduled to operate as usual.

Libraries:

  • The Golden Plains Mobile Library was closed at 12pm, Thursday 13 October, and will not operate on Friday 14 or Saturday 15 October.
  • The Bannockburn Library has also been closed and will remain closed on Friday 14 October.

Waste Collection:

Waste collection is scheduled to operate as usual. However, if there is water over the road, if the road is closed or it is deemed too dangerous, waste collections will not occur. If waste collection does not occur as per normal schedules, impacted areas will be collected next week when safe to do so. If collection does not occur, please bring in your bins on Friday and place them back out on Monday evening for collection on Tuesday. Thank you for your understanding.

Sandbag Stations: Open

Sand and sandbags are available at Smythesdale, Inverleigh, Bannckburn and Shelford for Golden Plains Shire residents, following significant rain and predictions of further rain across the Shire this week. Please bring your own shovel.

  • Inverleigh Bowls Club Car park, Railway Street, Inverleigh
  • Heales Street, Smythesdale between The Well and the church
  • Shelford Memorial Hall, Thompson Street, Shelford
  • Golden Plains Civic Centre, 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn

Sandbags won’t stop the water completely, but can reduce the amount of water entering your home by creating a small wall across door ways, or in plastic bags to cover drainage holes.

Further information on how to fill and lay sandbags is available on the SES website here
