Victoria's Single Use Plastics Ban is Here

SUP 2023
Environment

Victoria’s single use plastics ban commenced on 1 February 2023.

What is banned?

Banned items include single-use plastic drinking straws, drink stirrers, cutlery, plates, cotton buds and food-ware and cups made from expanded polystyrene. The ban includes items wholly or partly made of plastic. Compostable plastics, such as biodegradable plastics, degradable plastics, renewable plastics, and bioplastics are included in the ban. This includes plastic items with any composting certifications.

When ordering single-use alternatives for banned items, businesses should ask their suppliers to confirm in writing that the items do not contain any form of plastic polymer, including compostable or bioplastic. Logos, labelling or product claims are not proof of compliance.

Please note, even if there is remaining stock, businesses are prohibited from supplying banned items to customers.
