Council is inviting community members to register for the ‘Unpacking the Man Box’ workshop series.

Beginning in March 2023, the workshop series will focus on building the skills and knowledge required to support young boys and men to lead happy, healthy, and safe lives and to break away from unhealthy expectations of masculinity.

The program aims to empower participants to create change in the community, support wellbeing and promote respect and equality, particularly among boys and men.
Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham encouraged anyone interested in participating to register their interest for the workshop series.

“Council is excited to have engaged Jesuit Social Services to deliver this program to empower residents in Golden Plains in creating change, supporting wellbeing and promoting respect and equality.

“This program is designed for community members who live, work, study or volunteer in Golden Plains Shire and who may hold a position of influence in the community. The workshop series aims to develop participants’ understanding of the challenges and experiences for young men and boys and how to support healthy expectations of masculinity.”

The ‘Unpacking the Man Box’ workshop series has been designed based on findings from The Man Box, a first of its kind research project conducted by The Men’s Project in 2018 and has been tailored to fit the needs of the Golden Plains community.

This research highlights the pressures boys and men feel to behave a certain way, and the impacts this has on health, behaviour and life outcomes.

Participants can register online at goldenplains.vic.gov.au/consultations. Registrations are now open and close 5pm, Friday 10 February, 2023.

For further information, please contact Council’s Health, Wellbeing and Youth team on 03 5220 7199 or email [email protected].

This program is an initiative of the Crime Prevention Project which is funded by a $299,000 grant from the Victorian Government’s Building Safer Communities program.
