Unpacking the Man Box Webinar Session

Man Box Feb 2024

Council is inviting community members to join an Unpacking the Man Box webinar session which will explore the pressures and unspoken rules many men face to be a “real man”.

The webinar on Tuesday 6 February from 1.30pm to 2.30pm will focus on building the skills and knowledge required to support boys and men to lead happy, healthy and safe lives while breaking away from unhealthy expectations of masculinity.

Delivered by Jesuit Social Services, the session aims to empower participants to create change in the community, support wellbeing and promote respect and equality, particularly among boys and men.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham said community members were welcome to attend and learn more about ways to promote positive cultural change about what it means to be a man.

“This session will empower residents in Golden Plains Shire to create change, supporting wellbeing and promote respect and equality,” Cr Cunningham said.

“The webinar is designed for community members who live, work, study or volunteer in Golden Plains Shire and aims to encourage conversations about how to move beyond gender stereotypes, foster respectful relationships and promote positive wellbeing.”

Unpacking the Man Box workshops have been designed based on findings from The Man Box, a first of its kind research project conducted by The Men’s Project in 2018 and has been tailored to fit the needs of the Golden Plains community. This research highlights the pressures boys and men feel to behave a certain way, and the impacts this has on health, behaviour and life outcomes.

Registration is essential by visiting goldenplains.vic.gov.au/events. This session is available to attend online or in person at Golden Plains Civic Centre, 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn.
