Council is encouraging Golden Plains residents to foster greater connection with nature and their community by taking part in National Tree Day 2022 on Sunday 31 July.

To celebrate National Tree Day, Council will be hosting a tree planting event at Bruces Creek Reserve, Rosemond Way, Bannockburn, from 10am to 12pm on Sunday 31 July.

This year’s National Tree Day event aims to enhance the biodiversity of the Bruces Creek Reserve Corridor while adding to the natural beauty of the site by planting 600 trees and shrubs. The planting will complement existing pockets of established revegetation as part of the wildlife corridor being created along the creek line.

Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble encouraged Golden Plains residents to get involved in the tree planting event this National Tree Day.

“National Tree Day is a great opportunity for Golden Plains residents to connect with both nature and the community, while doing something for the environment and reaping the many benefits of spending time outdoors. It’s a fantastic chance for families to participate in a constructive and social activity together, and I encourage all Golden Plains residents to come along and plant a tree that they’ll be able to watch grow into the future.

Over 26 million trees have been planted by Australian volunteers since 1996 as part of the program and we are excited to add to this with the contribution of 600 trees and shrubs to be planted at Bruces Creek Reserve.

Planting trees is not only good for the environment but also provide habitat, food and even homes for native wildlife. These trees will make the Golden Plains community a better place to live and enjoy both now and into the future. I look forward to seeing you there.”

National Tree Day is Australia’s largest annual tree-planting and nature care event, with plantings taking place each year across the country on the last weekend of July.
