Golden Plains Shire Council adopted the Tracks and Trails Strategy 2023-2033 (the Strategy) at its meeting on Tuesday 27 February 2024.

The Strategy was developed following extensive community engagement in January and February 2023 which involved a series of workshops, surveys, and consultations. The Strategy was further refined with input from the community in November 2023.

This collaborative effort culminated in a Strategy that addresses the direct needs of the community while focusing on several key objectives;

  • Embracing existing recreational tracks and trails network.
  • Identifying recommendations for new trails, missing links and realignments.
  • Improving liveability and fostering health and wellbeing outcomes for residents.
  • Promoting safe, active transport options to reducing reliance on motor vehicles.
  • Enhancing environmental sustainability while reflecting the needs of the community.

Golden Plains Shire Council Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham said the Strategy allows Council to assess usage, monitor progress and establish a sustainable network of tracks and trails.

“The Tracks and Trails Strategy will guide the future planning, development and activation of tracks and trails across Golden Plains for the next 10 years. It highlights key findings, current trends and strategic priorities for tracks and trails throughout our Shire and the wider region,” Cr Cunningham said.

“Thank you to all the community members for their valuable contributions in the development of the Strategy through the extensive engagement opportunities in 2023. Your involvement was vital in ensuring the Strategy successfully aligns with our shared vision.”

The Tracks and Trails Strategy is supported by a Detailed Action Plan that will assist the delivery of the Strategy over the next 10 years.
