Technology Upgrades Elevate Community Engagement in Smythesdale

The Well
Council Meetings
Smythesdale

Golden Plains Shire Council has enhanced connectivity at The Well in Smythesdale empowering residents from all corners of our community to participate in Council meetings virtually at The Well.

In an era where connectivity is paramount, Council understands the crucial role of Information Technology (IT) in ensuring that all residents can actively take part in Council meetings, no matter where they are or their circumstances.

Due to the widespread nature of our Shire, residents are required to travel long distances to attend Council meetings. Bridging geographical divides and bringing the community together, by providing livestreaming and virtual attendance opportunities, emphasises Council’s dedication to creating a more accessible and inclusive platform for community members to participate in Council meetings and ask a public question.

Golden Plains Shire Council Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham said eliminating the barriers that may have previously prevented residents from participating in our democratic process due to geographical location had been a longstanding goal of The Well’s transformative IT upgrade.

Council remains committed to fostering a sense of community and active participation among its residents. This forward-thinking initiative demonstrates Council’s commitment to establishing a more accessible and inclusive platform for community members throughout the Shire, marking a significant stride toward achieving this goal, and creating opportunities for the community to be involved in Council meetings and participate in the decision-making process.
