Golden Plains Shire Council is supporting aspiring community leaders to strengthen their capacity and competency in civic participation with the return of its Community Leadership Program.

The Community Leadership Program (the Program) aims to develop emerging and aspiring leaders within the Golden Plains community, supporting participants to improve their leadership skills, build their knowledge, skills and confidence, and develop community-led initiatives and events.

The Program will be held online weekly from Tuesday 31 January until Tuesday 9 May, 2023 and will focus on improving leadership capacity and competency. Participants will gain a stronger understanding of civic participation and government and learn how they can best progress the change they want to create in their community.

Community members who live, work, study or volunteer in Golden Plains Shire and are looking to improve their leadership skills, connect with other community leaders and gain experience working with local government are encouraged to apply for the program.

Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham encouraged aspiring community leaders to get involved and put their hand up for the program.

“Community leaders are a vital part of the Golden Plains community, mobilising and empowering others to create positive change. The Community Leadership Program will ensure these leaders have the capabilities to create beneficial change in the community through tangible actions.

“The Community Leadership Program and its participants will support Golden Plains Shire to continue growing as a diverse, active and connected community, while increasing participation in local and municipal community life. I’d encourage anyone who may be interested to take this opportunity to enhance their leadership skills.”

Expressions of interest will be open until Friday 20 January, 2023, and can be completed online at goldenplains.vic.gov.au/consultations. Hard copies are also available at Council’s Customer Hubs, 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn and 19 Heales Street, Smythesdale.
