Golden Plains Shire Council has once again collaborated with community groups, sports clubs, fitness instructors and residents from across the Shire to create the Active Golden Plains ‘Spring into Summer’ program. This four-week program will run from Monday 18 September to Sunday 15 October 2023, offering a diverse range of physical activities and wellness events suitable for all ages, interests and fitness levels

Led by local health, fitness and sports experts, the program features over 70 events, including Pilates, tennis, basketball shooting, tai chi, pickleball, yoga, fishing, walking, lawn bowls, karate and more.

As part of the program, a family friendly 'No lights, No lycra' dance event will take place at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre on Saturday 23 September at 6:30pm. In a dimly lit room, participants can enjoy a dance class together. Additionally, daily Pilates and group fitness classes will be available in Inverleigh from 6am to 6:30pm throughout the program.

For children, there are exciting opportunities such as junior open tennis and hot shots tennis in Bannockburn each Wednesday and Friday, Kyokusin Karate in Teesdale from 5.30pm every Wednesday, and weekly all-ages yoga classes.

Walking enthusiasts can join various walking groups in Smythesdale, Dereel, Bannockburn, Rokewood, Berringa and Inverleigh and there is no fee associated with joining. Those seeking unique experiences can also explore activities like weekly Petanque and pickleball in Smythesdale.

Golden Plains Shire Council Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham encourages residents to get involved in the program.

The Active Golden Plains Spring into Summer program offers people of all ages and abilities a fantastic opportunity to partake in physical activity and connect with the community,” Cr Cunningham said.

It’s a chance for community members to explore new ways of moving and to enjoy diverse activities that promote movement and social interaction,” he said.

I look forward to seeing residents joining in these enjoyable activities and encourage them to step beyond their comfort zone and try something out of the ordinary.

Several activities will be delivered at no cost, while some activities will have a participation fee. Registration is essential; visit Council’s website: goldenplains.vic.gov.au/activegoldenplains.
