Council has partnered with community groups, sporting clubs, gyms, fitness instructors and residents from across the Shire to develop the five-week Active Golden Plains ‘Spring into Summer’ program, to be delivered across Golden Plains from Monday 19 September to Friday 21 October.

The Spring into Summer program will offer a range of physical activities and wellbeing events across the Shire, delivered by experienced local health, fitness and sport professionals with options suitable for all ages, interests and fitness levels. The program allows community members to explore new ways to move, with a range of different activities that encourage movement and social connection.

The timetable features more than 150 events, with one-off and weekly activities including tennis, cricket, taekwondo, tai chi, cardio drumming, fishing, pickleball, walking, boxing, mums and bubs classes and more.

There is a wide range of activities available for children of all ages, including a Kickstart Kids karate class from 5.30pm each Wednesday throughout the five-week program in Teesdale for $5, as well as tennis programs suitable for juniors in Grenville, Meredith, Bannockburn, Inverleigh and more.

A number of walking groups will also be held throughout the Shire to encourage community members to get out and about and get moving. Groups will be held in Smythesdale, Dereel, Bannockburn, Rokewood, Berringa and Inverleigh and there is no fee to join.

For those looking to try something new, the timetable includes activities such as weekly cardio drumming sessions in Ross Creek, weekly pickle ball in Smythesdale, alongside Pétanque, fishing and disc golf sessions.

Golden Plains Shire Council Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble encouraged residents to get involved in the program and get active over the five-weeks.

“Council is committed to providing opportunities to improve the physical and social wellbeing of our communities. The new Active Golden Plains Spring into Summer program is a great way for residents of all ages and abilities to participate in physical activity.

“The Spring into Summer program not only provides opportunities for residents to get active, but also showcases the wide range of activities on offer throughout the Shire, from Dereel to Bannockburn and everywhere in between.”

Several activities will be delivered at no cost, while some activities will have a participation fee. Registration is essential; visit Council’s website: goldenplains.vic.gov.au.
