Smythesdale

The Spring in the Shire photography exhibition is currently on display at The Well in Smythesdale and will remain open to the community until the end of August.

The exhibition features the winners of the 2021 Spring in the Shire photography competition, which were announced in December 2021.

The biennial competition is an opportunity for photographers from across the Shire to showcase their talents by capturing the beautiful surrounds and vibrant communities of Golden Plains. The 2021 competitions’ theme was ‘What we share’, and photographers of any skill level were encouraged to capture this theme through their lens.

From more than 70 entries, 30 images were shortlisted. The shortlisted entries are all included in the Spring in the Shire public exhibition. The shortlisted entries are broken down into three categories, Major Prize (18 years and older), Young Adult Prize (13 to 17 years old) and Junior Prize (Up to 12 years).

The Major and Young Adult prize-winners received $300 and the Junior Prize winner was awarded $200. Council partnered with Stockdale & Leggo Bannockburn and Healthsave Pharmacy Bannockburn to offer these great prizes.

Before moving to The Well, the exhibition was on display at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre.

Smythesdale local and Golden Plains Shire Council 2021 Citizen of the Year, Barry Wemyss, professionally de-installed the exhibition at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre before transporting and hanging the works on the new hanging system at The Well.

The exhibition is open to the public from 8:30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
