Share Your Creative COVID-19 Stories

Arts, Culture & Heritage

Local creatives are invited to share their stories and help document life at home under COVID-19 restrictions as part of Council’s Save the Date art project.

From today, artists, individuals and community groups are eligible to nominate a date during the month of May and submit a digital diary entry for that day. The diary entries will be broadcast on Council’s new Golden Plains Arts & Culture Facebook page.

Diary entries can take any form that is suitable for digital broadcast, such as a short film, animation, spoken word piece, poem, dance, performance or music. All entries must comply with the current social distancing and COVID-19 restrictions from the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services.

To get involved in the project, local creatives can access project resources, including a fact sheet, how to submit a diary entry and a Facebook help sheet for those not confident using the platform, at goldenplains.vic.gov.au/arts or by emailing [email protected]. Artists will have the option to upload their entries directly onto the Facebook page, or can have it uploaded for them. All content will be moderated by Council’s Arts & Culture Advisor.

Residents not interested in making their own submission can also get involved, by engaging with the artists on the Facebook page by asking questions, sharing posts or just taking part in the conversation.

Golden Plains Mayor Cr Owen Sharkey says the Save the Date project is a fantastic opportunity for the Shire’s creative residents and groups.

“COVID-19 and its restrictions have been tough for many in the Shire’s creative sector, particularly with the cancellation of last month’s annual Golden Plains Community Arts Trail.”

“The Save the Date project is a great way for creatives to share their talents, documenting what life is like in Golden Plains during these strange times, and keeping the arts community connected.”

“I encourage any locals who are interested to get involved, and I look forward to seeing what I know will be some terrific and creative entries.”

Up to three participants may be offered small grants to continue to work on their chosen piece under future stages of this project, and Council plans to curate a small exhibition of the project’s content to tour Golden Plains Shire once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.

Residents and groups seeking more information on the project can contact Council’s Arts & Culture Adviser at 5220 7111 or [email protected].
