Golden Plains Shire Council is offering a variety of events for senior residents to enjoy throughout the month of October to celebrate the 2023 Victorian Seniors Festival.
The Victorian Seniors Festival is a state-wide festival for Victorians over 60 years of age focusing on providing fun and social connection.
Council is pleased to again host the Victorian Seniors Festival in Golden Plains and has partnered with local organisations and community groups to provide a calendar of events for our local seniors, with free or low-cost events and activities taking place across the Shire.
Golden Plains participants can get active playing golf, participate in technology and art group classes, and engage with other seniors in the Shire at the Linton Men’s Shed or Linton Community Hub over morning teas and lunches.
Council will also be hosting events and programs for seniors in the Shire including an International Day for Older Persons Celebration with Sing Australia in Smythesdale, Ageism Awareness Day morning tea in Bannockburn, trips to the Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie, a tour of the old Ballarat Town Hall, and delivery of the Wiser Driver program.
Golden Plains Shire Council Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham encouraged the senior community to enjoy all the activities and programs on offer.
“Seniors Festival 2023 is bringing a wide range of activities on offer across the Shire, with events to suit a broad cross-section of our senior community and offering opportunities for social interaction, physical activity and fun,” Cr Cunningham said.
“Seniors will have the opportunity to get active, try something new, meet new people and sample what’s on offer across the Shire. I encourage all Golden Plains residents over 60 to get involved and make the most of the events throughout October.”
Several activities will be delivered at no cost, while some activities will have a low-cost participation fee. Registration is required for Council run and Bannockburn Library (Geelong Regional Libraries) events.
