Public Notice

Severe weather and heavy rainfall is forecast for the coming days, with potential moderate and major flood warnings for the Barwon and Leigh rivers.

Sand and sandbags are available at Smythesdale, Inverleigh and Shelford for Golden Plains Shire residents, following significant rain and predictions of further rain across the Shire this week. Please bring your own shovel.

  • Inverleigh Bowls Club Car park, Railway Street, Inverleigh
  • Heales Street, Smythesdale between The Well and the church
  • Shelford Memorial Hall, Thompson Street, Shelford
  • Golden Plains Civic Centre, 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn

Sandbags won’t stop the water completely, but can reduce the amount of water entering your home by creating a small wall across door ways, or in plastic bags to cover drainage holes.

Further information on how to fill and lay sandbags is available on the SES website here.

All residents are reminded not to drive, walk or ride through flood waters and are encouraged to drive with caution as they travel through the Shire.

Stay up to date via the VicEmergency website or app here.
