Motorists travelling through Berringa and Garibaldi are benefitting from safer intersections following the completion of upgrade works at the intersection of Derwent Jacks Road, Snowgum Road, Staffordshire Reef Road and Crombs Road in Berringa and the Buninyong–Mt Mercer Road and Hardies Hill Road intersection in Garibaldi.

The improvement works in Berringa saw the widening and sealing of approximately 100m of Staffordshire Reef Road, Snowgum Road and 50m of Derwent Jack Road, leading from the intersection. The intersection upgrade was undertaken following community requests, with works beginning in May 2022 and completed in December 2022.

Upgrades in Garibaldi included road asphalt resurfacing and shoulder improvement works to increase safety on the busy Buninyong–Mt Mercer Road and Hardies Hill Road intersection. These works were completed in March 2022.

The $306,900 upgrades were fully funded by the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) fund and delivered by Council.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham welcomed the completion of two more road upgrades to improve the safety of residents and drivers travelling through Golden Plains.

Quotes attributable to Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham:

“Council understands that the community had concerns about the intersection of Derwent Jacks Road, Snowgum Road, Staffordshire Reef Road and Crombs Road in Berringa, and we are pleased to have delivered these important improvement works in response to their requests.

“Council is committed to delivering road improvement works across the Shire and we thank the Australian Government for their partnership, which made these two projects possible. The communities of Berringa and Garibaldi will be safer on the road thanks to these works.

“As Councillors, we want to know about anything in the community that needs our attention, like the Berringa intersection. I encourage residents to report their concerns to Council’s Customer Experience team so we can work to address these requests.”

Quotes attributable to Federal Member for Ballarat Catherine King:

“These are important works that help get people home safer and respond to the needs of the community.

“The Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program is important and it’s why the Albanese Labor Government delivered on the election commitment to provide an additional $250 million to the program.”
