Sport & Recreation

The updated Ross Creek Recreation Reserve Masterplan (the Masterplan) was adopted by Golden Plains Shire Council at its meeting on Tuesday 25 July.

The adopted Masterplan was updated from the previous Masterplan, developed in 2015, to ensure it reflects and responds to the changing needs of the user groups and the broader community.

The Masterplan aims to appropriately reflect current facility provisions at the reserve, capture future participation opportunities and identify the demand for future facility improvements and addresses functional issues with the existing landscape with a strong focus on multi-use and fit-for-purpose recreation facilities to encourage greater participation and community use of the reserve.

The focus of the Masterplan is on the active part of the Recreation Reserve including the football/cricket oval, tennis courts, pavilion, sheltered and change areas, public toilet facilities and the recently upgraded play and active recreation spaces at the reserve.

The Masterplan also provides some recommendations to improve the interface areas with the Woady Yaloak Primary School and provides some specific advice on the improvement of the adjoining nature reserve or associated trails.

The Masterplan was developed in consultation with the Ross Creek Recreation Reserve Committee of Management, Community Coordinators and tenant clubs and aligns with Council’s vision for sport and active recreation and ensures that the long-term development aspirations of the tenant clubs, community groups and residents are taken into consideration.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham said the adoption of the Ross Creek Recreation Reserve Masterplan will guide the future development of the reserve to ensure it meets the needs of the growing community.

Council is excited to adopt the updated Ross Creek Recreation Reserve Masterplan and we thank all community members who shared their valuable input during its development and during the period of public exhibition.

As the Ross Creek community continues to grow, it is important to have a plan in place to guide the growth of the Ross Creek Recreation Reserve to ensure it meets the needs of all users of the reserve from the Woady Yaloak Primary School to the Ballarat Fire Brigade Cricket Club, Ross Creek Landcare Group and various community groups, residents, and visitors to Ross Creek.

The updated Masterplan will provide for increased opportunity for residents from Ross Creek and surrounding townships in the north of the Shire to engage in physical activity and participate in a variety of sports.
