Road Closure Update - Golden Plains Shire

Road Closures Flooding Update
Roads & Transport

The recent weather has caused significant damage to roads across the Shire. Council’s Roads, Drainage and Town Maintenance teams are working to repair roads as quickly as possible to make them safe and accessible for the community and will commence a visual audit of all roads in November.

Council has been advised the Hamilton Highway at the railway crossing near Inverleigh will be closed intermittently for works on site over the next month, as crews remove debris from the recent train derailment and commence work to repair the line.

While some roads have reopened after flood events, most affected roads remain closed particularly around Rokewood, Shelford, Russells Bridge, Sutherlands Creek, Lethbridge, Meredith and Grenville.

Council appreciates the patience of all residents as all agencies work through road closures and repairs, and we ask you to please follow all road safety directions in affected areas.

Please do not drive through flood waters. Council also reminds drivers to drive to the conditions, observe speed limits, and allow extra time for your journey as you may experience delays.

Residents can view up to date information on road closures at VicRoads VicTraffic website: VicRoads - VicTraffic

More rain has been forecast in the coming days. In the event of further flooding, we encourage any resident who requires assistance to contact Council’s Customer Experience team on 5220 7111. Council can offer limited temporary accommodation, mental health first aid, and can advocate on behalf of residents in relation to insurance claims.

Emergency Recovery Victoria can also provide assistance to flood-affected residents in the Golden Plains on 1800 560 760.
